Each act was dedicated to the music of the original 1969 Woodstock festival. Dragonfly, Wondrous Stories, and Halfstep are just a few of the bands that offered hits by Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and The Grateful Dead.

The tribute began with Jellyband, who performed a wide arrangement of 60s and 70s music. Crowd favorites included Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart” and “The Weight” by The Band.

Surprise guest Neville Chester had a few words to say about his time as a roadie for rock and roll legends like Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and Eric Clapton. Chester was approached by many eager fans and even shared stories with them of his exciting time in the music business. Chester explained, “The Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein had just bought a country house, and we had this weekend party… at some point, I sat in John Lennon’s Rolls Royce with Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton.” Chester’s anecdotes and approachable demeanor reminded everyone of the true nature of Woodstock, that is we could all bond over a love of good music.

While some enjoyed the concert from a modest blanket or lawn chair, others assembled entire tents complete with personal food and drink. Frisbees glided across one end of the park while tie-die clad hippies-at-heart danced to their favorite songs by the stage. In addition to the live music, there were several artists positioned around the property, each painting their interpretation of the landscape, which included the enormous mansions that sit on the property overlooking the Long Island Sound.

By mid-afternoon, the sun was hot on the lawn. Cars were still arriving in droves, depositing even more lawn chairs and coolers. Dragonfly then performed a blistering set of Jimi Hendrix’s music. Miligro, and Wondrous Stories were to follow. After hours of music and art, the festivities drew to a close with Halfstep, the highly anticipated Grateful Dead cover group. When all was done, a newly light-hearted crowd packed up their cars and headed home, but only after taking one last picture in front of the stage to remember the day with.

Concertgoers were lucky enough to attend this first concert free of charge, thanks to festival sponsor, Sam Ash Music Stores. Other concerts to come include: Long Island Sound & Art Festival, Live Art Fusion Fest, Marleyfest, and many more.

With 2 decades under his belt owner Remi Kurtaj knows how to present a “pairing”.

As people came pouring in, each person was presented with a cold glass of Spring Water followed by a plate of delicious Bruchetta over Fresh Garlic bread, a Cold Antipasto smothered in Provolone, Salami, Mortadella, Lettuce, Peppers among the usual suspects and lastly a Hot Antipasto with Clams Oregenata, Shrimp, Calamari and others. These first few courses were paired with Lamarca Prosecca, a nice white wine.

Immediately following this course we were served a Pear Salad with Fresh Goat Cheese and Sauvingnon Blanc from Edna Valley Vineyard 2011.

At this point we were almost done as the bottles of wine just continued to flow as if endless, we could not believe there was more to come and boy did it.

As we enjoyed table chit chat the attentive and professional staff cleared our table and we were served another course, this time a pasta dish. A bountiful plate of Agnelotti stuffed with Lobster Meat & one of the best Bow Tie and Pesto I had ever tasted, absolutely delicious.

To clear the pallet, a Coconut Orange and Lemon Sorbet with a Pinot Noir courtesy of Mac Murray, Russian River Valley.

The last two dishes were paired with individual wine selections and at this point, you have to “press” on.

Next, a Shrimp dipped in Coconut, Light White Wine & Flounder with Hash Brown Potatoes accompanied by a healthy glass of Napa Valley Chardonnay from William Hill.

Last and certainly not least the main course, we are still not sure when then wine kicked in, but we were on a roll and we were ready.

Our waiter presented us with a Lamb Chop reduction Bordelaise Sauce and Pollo Rolotini stuffed with grapes and goat cheese in a champagne sauce and perfectly paired with a Louis M. Martini 2009 Cabernet Sauvaignon.

Now, I understand this is alot to take in, it was for me, especially since I am not a wine drinker but I will say that if you do not visit Giardinetto’s you are missing out. The staff, atmosphere, service and of course the fare is why SlingPing will recommend Giardinetto’s to everyone, the experience is worth every penny.

Faldo Bistec at La Parilla

As you walk up the pavered stairway into the establishment your eyes are immediately drawn to the bars configuration,  fireplace and the overall decor of the restaurant.  It is filled with warm colors, lighting and to be honest when inside you almost feel you are dining on their outdoor patio.

Now our reservations, not required, were for 7:30pm and despite being slightly late, we were seated promptly. We loved being seated in their front dining room the windows really make the room.

Upon being seated warm bread was served, our drink orders were taken and my wife, a Sangria conessuer, didn’t waste any time on ordering La Parilla’s signature cocktail. Now, on to the meal.

For an appetizer, the Empanada’s, simply delicious especially once dipped in their spicy Picante Sauce. It really complimented the crisp outer crust and just exploded with flavor. Entree, we highly recommend the Falda Bistec, this is a grilled skirt steak smothered in sauteed spanish onions. This was unbelievable. Cooked to perfection and cut with fork this steak was an absolute pleasure and enjoyable experience.

Despite only being opened for 8 weeks, the La Parilla staff, Cammy, Janelle and Anthony truly made our night out one to remember.

All across Long Island every bar and restaurant has some sort of Beer and Wing special either price discounts or our favorite, the Unlimited Wings and Beers for anywhere between $12-$15 per person for about 2 hours. This special attracts those social butterflies into the venue just after dinner time and keeps them in the house for the evening’s entertainment, very smart.

This year Sunday August 25th, comes the 1st Annual Long Island Wing Festival founded by Danny Wiseman owner of Even Flow Bar & Grill and hosted by Nutty Irishman – Bayshore.  Wing lovers across the island can come down the the festival and enjoy wings from each of the venue’s in 1 location.

The categories are not solidified nor are the prizes but today we just learned that Samuel Adam’s has just signed on to be the Official Beer of the event. So if this is what’s to come I am sure that the event will be off the hook.

In the end there will only be 1 “King of the Wing”

Congratulations to the first place winner David Brunelli eating an amazing 26 hot dogs scoring him $500 & 2 Tickets to the NY Yankees, second place winner Wayne Algenio eating 23 hot dogs snatched up $175 and third place winner Patrick Taylor eating 21 hot dogs grabbed $75.

It’s finally here!!

Remi and his staff’s commitment to make our dining experience enjoyable shows through every facet of our visit.  We always choose the hot antipasto appiterizer to sample a few of the restaurant’s delightful options. With jumbo shrimp, eggplant rollatini, baked clams, and fried calamari, we always have a hard time choosing which one is your favorite.    Or are you a pasta lover, you could try the sweet potato gnocchi.   It is delicious. The chicken scarpariello is also a fantastic, made with tender chicken, sausage, and garlic. My friend’s lamb chops were tender and flavorful. The wine selection at Giardinetto is also superb.  Remi suggested the perfect wine to compliment our meal.

To end the meal we had cappuccino with a few different desserts as we couldn’t pick just one.  From the rich chocolate cake to the sweet tartufo everything was perfect.  Stop by today and experience all Giardinetto has to offer.
